We will start this week with one of the most infamous missed opportunities in chess. It makes it so because the fellow who missed it was one of the great attacking geniuses in chess history—Mikhail Chigorin, who only drew here against Schiffers at St.Petersburg, 1897. The position is after White’s 25th move. Since it’s a Monday, here’s a hint: it’s all checks!

Solution:

Chigorin could have finished his opponent off with 25...Rh1+!! 26.Nxh1 Bh2+ 27.Kxh2 Rh8+ 28.Kg3 Nf5+ 29.Kf4 Rh4
