SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) -- Drunks who get into a cab in San Francisco may be forced to pay up if they can't keep their vomit down.

City cabbies intend to start invoking a Municipal Transportation Code article that gives them the right to charge a $100 puke clean-up fee.

According to Article 1100, Section 1124:

"Cleaning Fee. Drivers are authorized to collect a cleaning fee of up to $100 from any passenger who permanently stains the interior of the vehicle or who renders the vehicle temporarily unfit for for-hire passengers because of spillage of any substance such that the vehicle must be taken out of service and cleaned."

At least one driver is advising potentially pukey passengers about the fine with a sign reading, "$100 VOMIT SURCHARGE...PUKING INSIDE MY CAR COST YOU $100."

Cabbies in other cities like Chicago, St. Louis, Ottawa and Calgary also sometimes charge a vomit clean-up fee.
