PARIS (UPI) -- Residents were told to stay indoors after a tiger was spotted on the loose near Disneyland Paris just outside of the city.

The animal was spotted at 8:30 a.m. local time in Montevrain by the owner of the lntermarche supermarket and his wife.

"She didn't get out of the car and called me to say 'I think I saw a lynx'," said the owner.

There were several other sightings by residents afterwards. Disneyland Paris and the towns Chessy and Montevrain are about 25 miles west of city.

There was indication that the cat sighting is affecting park operations, but residents were told to remain in their homes.

Specialists tracking the tiger say it is a young and are following it by its prints with authorities and a helicopter assisting in the search.

Officials do not know the origin of the tiger, but there is a big cat park not far from where the feline was seen. EuroDisney, the operator of Disneyland Paris, said it has no tigers.
